Federal law prohibits producing distilled spirits at home. Beverage production requires prior TTB qualification of a Distilled Spirits Plant, plus applicable state and local approvals. Alcohol vapor, heat and pressure create severe fire and explosion hazards.
Complete systems
Record intended lawful use, capacity, materials, heat source, condenser, relief, controls, included fittings and exact shipping dimensions.
Components
Verify ferrule size, diameter, material, gasket, rating, orientation and role. A collection of compatible-looking parts is not automatically a safe system.
Used equipment
Inspect welds, repairs, residue, corrosion, dents, glass, valves, pressure devices, controls, electrical condition and prior use.
Commercial equipment
Require drawings, certificates, controls, utility loads, service records, removal plan and code review before bidding.
Legal-use evidence
Do not rely on seller statements that a still is legal everywhere or legal for personal use. Confirm the intended use with current authorities.
